HAPPY FRIDAY: BrazelBerries Strawberry Shortcake

I have been waiting patiently for a visit from the UPS man (or the PUS man, as my daughter used to call it). My order from White Flower Farm has shipped, and should arrive momentarily. While thumbing through my magazines (Better Homes & Gardens, Country Living, House Beautiful, Traditional Home) for wall color ideas, I spotted this seasonal "must have." A thornless raspberry variety, perfect for containers, called "BrazelBerries Strawberry Shortcake.".

Back in March, I made plans to expand my sustainable gardens with the purchase of a Vegtrug, which I had seen at this year's Boston Flower and Garden Show. I immediately pictured one for my upper patio, so I got two. The addition of BrazelBerries is perfect.

I have had success growing tomatoes and herbs in glazed pots on my patio, where there is the perfect amount of sun. The kids really enjoy a salad made with their own tomatoes and fresh herbs. In years past, I did try my hand at planting up a small bed in the backyard with lettuce, carrots, strawberries, etc., but my bunny friends where the only ones who got to enjoy its yield. Since the Vegtrug is a raised planter and can be positioned close to the house (where the sun is ideal), this will hopefully help to deter any friendly visitors. Although, where there is a will, there is a way.

Looking forward to enjoying my summer yield.

Until next time...L.
